And the lights are still burning

HURSTHILL - There's no excuse not to study anymore for students in Hursthill. At long last, electricity has been restored to the suburb.

Residents and students of Abercorn Street and surrounds in Hursthill are no longer contending with a life in darkness.

After a week with no power, electricity was been restored to the streets.

“Hallelujah,” an ecstatic Sharon Gluckman who lives in the street said.

She reported that City Power informed her that the strongest circuit breaker possible was now powering the area and that the electricity wouldn’t go out again. She said that he concurred that the power-related problems plaguing the area most probably were thanks to the circuits overloading because of the many communes in the area.

“After the article in the Northcliff Melville Times [Week ending 20 June] I received two phone calls from the City Power technician checking to see if we’re happy,” Gluckman said.

“And we’ve had power non-stop since… well, it went out on Monday but that happened everywhere, so that’s okay.”
