Eddie Zondi’s memorial service underway

JOBURG - The legendary Metro FM presenter Eddie Zondi's memorial service is underway at the Standard Bank Arena.

A memorial service is being held for the late Metro FM DJ Eddie Zondi today (19 June) at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

The service started at 11am and is set to conclude at 3pm.

Public Relations and Communications Manager for Metro FM Happy Ngidi said the public is welcome to join the Zondi Family, Metro FM family and the industry to celebrate the life and times of the late Ruimsig resident.

Metro FM shows, The Front Row which airs from 9am till 12pm and The Great Escape which airs from 12pm to 3pm will broadcast live from the memorial service.

Zondi will be laid to rest on Sunday 22 June at the Westpark Cemetery in Montgomery Park. The funeral service will be held at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Soweto Campus from 8am to 12pm after which the procession will leave for Westpark Cemetery.

Ngidi confirmed that Metro FM will be dedicating the entire day’s programming (Sunday) to the memory of the late DJ. Two of their morning shows, Sounds and Stuff Like That presented by Wilson Nkosi as well as The Chill Factor presented by Paul Mtirara will broadcast live from the UJ campus.

For the Romantic Repertoire which is the show Eddie Zondi presented, the station has packaged what Ngidi described as an amazing three- hour medley of some of his shows over the years including the last one he hosted on 15 June.

“The station could never possibly find a replacement for Eddie’s show for this particular Sunday and therefore, this decision is based on that.We at Metro FM send our sincerest and deepest condolences to the Zondi Family. Eddie Zondi, Your Day Is Done. Lala ngoxolo (Rest in peace) Zondi. Lala ngoxolo Nondaba. Lala ngoxolo Gagashe,” said Ngidi in conclusion.
