“I would do crazy things for charity!” these are the words spoken by fearless Louie Greeff from Westdene. Greeff will be doing his second world feat by river gliding down the dangerous Zambezi River in July to raise awareness for charity.
Northcliff Melville Times has spoken at length with the 62-year-old Greeff who admitted that charity is very close to his heart, and this is the only way to show people that there are children who need attention.
Greeff announced that he will be going through seven southern African countries, swimming past 180 000 crocodiles, thousands of hippos, killer rapids and Zambezi sharks.
Speaking about the Zambezi challenge, one can really get spooked by the sheer size of the beastly creatures of the river, yet for some reason, Greeff is determined to go all out and swim with the sharks for charity sake. Greeff, however,mentioned that he wouldn’t classify himself as a daredevil and does not want his efforts to go to waste. “I want to help orphans who are affected by Aids because I believe they need help,” he said.
“The aim is to raise awareness about children living in abject poverty, including numerous health issues among children orphaned because their parents have died of either malaria, TB, Aids or landmines.”
Greeff told the paper that he overcomes his fear by training hard at the Vaal Dam and also at his Westdene home. The adamant Greeff mentioned that on the challenge he will be surviving on biltong and nuts.
When he is not thinking about making people’s lives better, Greeff enjoys doing art.
