Fairland police enjoy sweet rewards

Fairland police station employees enjoyed a finger-licking treat from Gabrielle’s Bakes on18 May.

Commemorating World Baking Day, Gabrielle’s Bakes pledged to bake a chocolate cake for the Fairland Police station “to thank the team for the wonderful work they do in the community”.

“World Baking Day is a fun initiative and Gabrielle’s Bakes decided to pay it forward and make someone’s day,” said Stephanie Lodewyk, Founder and Co-Owner of Gabrielle’s Bakes.

“The chocolate cake was gladly welcomed by the team who polished it off within minutes.”

“Fairland police work very hard and I believe they are seldom thanked and appreciated. A simple thank you goes a long way.”

“The way they received it made me want to bake for them again, they really appreciated that we had taken the time to bring them a token of our appreciation for their efforts in our community,” she added.

The Fairland police enjoyed the cake and are happy that residents appreciate the work they are doing.

“The bakery offered the cake to police on duty and we appreciated it. The officers enjoyed the cake and were happy that their hard work is being recognised,” said Captain Patrick Sejang.

Lodewyk said the things she loves most about baking are the freedom for creativity, new flavours, designs, techniques and ideas.

“Baking gives me the opportunity to share my creative talent, and in each creation I remember my grandmothers, and great grandmothers who have passed down their recipes and secrets,” she commented.

Lodewyk recently won the Stork I Love Baking Easter Competition. She baked an Easter cake with a unique checkerboard sponge, skilfully decorated as a tree trunk and a cute handmade fondant bunny burrowing into it. The beautifully hand-moulded icing roses and grass completed the finishing to this creative craft. This unique creation won Lodewyk a Kenwood mixer “which will be a great asset for this new bakery.”

Gabrielle’s Bakes offers a wide selection of traditional bakes and treats as well as specialty bakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and functions. These are specially designed according to the customer’s requirements.

Gabrielle’s Bakes was coined in November 2013.
