Lend a helping hand and donate

JOBURG: Numerous NGO organisations in the area need donations this winter.

As winter approaches, numerous organisations in the area seek donations.

The Baby House: Donate for the little ones

The Baby House seeks donations for their home for abandoned and abused children.

It was founded two years ago by Robin Fenn and is a safe haven for these children, and it relies on the community to assist with the running costs of the Home.

Fenn believes in giving back and investing in the community.

“The community has always been extremely generous and forthcoming in assisting, not only with donations but also with their time through volunteering,” said Fenn.

“People are wonderful to our children, and we like to pay it forward.”

The Baby House partnered up with Hospice and is collecting second hand goods such as clothes, toys, furniture, electronics, books, CDs and DVDs to help support the children.

“All items donated that we cannot use are sent to Hospice for sale and after being sold, all proceeds then come to The Baby House,” said Paola Brandt, a volunteer at The Baby House.

This is an ongoing initiative, which assists those in need.

“We encourage the public to get involved. It’s a great deed and it doesn’t take much effort,” commented Fenn.

Everyone has things that clutter up their homes which they will never use again. Donate it to The Baby House where it will be the cause of much joy to people who need it.

All those interested in making donations can drop off their donations at The Baby House in Lonehill, Johannesburg, and they’ll make sure it gets delivered to the Hospice depot.

Coach: Add a little warmth this winter

Coalition Of Anglican Children’ Home (Coach) is hosting its annual Winter Drive and seeks winter donations.

It is a non-profit organisation that helps children, who have had a troubled start in life, to grow into happy and productive members of society.

Coach manages three children’s homes (St Georges, St Joseph’s and St Nicolas) in Gauteng.

“All the children in our care are placed with us in terms of Children’s Court orders. Our homes are located in Kempton Park, Sophiatown and Westbury. In these communities we help support the needs of troubled families and children,” said Public Relations Officer Sandhira Poonsamy.

As we approach winter, we start to feel the chilled mornings and evenings, winter wardrobes start to surface and the warm blankets and heaters come out.

“We are appealing to everyone to donate items such as blankets, clothes (scarves, socks, hats and other warm clothing items), canned food, dry food and heaters,” Poonsamy added.

“Get together with your colleagues, friends and family and put together a collection of the items needed. We will be happy to arrange for the items to be collected.”
