Auckland Park’s rude awakening

AUCKLAND PARK - Is a six am wake-up from a radio show broadcasting outside your house acceptable? Deejay Ankletap from YFM certainly thinks it is.

Residents of Auckland Park awoke with a bang at 6am last Friday morning when YFM’s DJ Ankletap (Bryce Clarke) broadcast his breakfast show Rise n Tap outside McDonald’s near Campus Square – at peak volume.

“We wanted to wake up Auckland Park,” Clarke said, grinning unapologetically.

“My boss said I could choose any intersection to broadcast my show at, and I chose this one because I was a student at UJ.”

Skipper Magonono, who runs a fan page for YFM, watched the live show.

“I got here late,” he said in disappointment. “Only caught the show from 7am. It was great though. I always enjoy the show, it’s a YFM show.”

An elaborate bed, a dressing table, a stage and various stage props were part of the show and Ankletap apparently even spent part of the show in the bed.

“It was a rude awakening,” an Auckland Park resident reported.

“I’d planned to sleep in a little. But after a while I started enjoying the music from my house.”
