Westdene owner defends so-called shacks on his property

WESTDENE - Reesberg said he is planning to subdivide his property for a second time to build a communal residence. He is currently waiting for his building plans to be approved.

Gerrit Reesberg explained that the structures on his property that Northcliff Melville Times reported on before were for his housekeeper, builders and his driver.

“One of the structures is an enclosed toilet and I’m using the other as a storage shed. I’m planning to build there, and my builders need a place to stay.”

Reesberg said he is planning to subdivide his property for a second time to build a communal residence. He is currently waiting for his building plans to be approved.

“It won’t be a commune,” he added.

“One of the possible plans I have after I’m done building would be to use the building for charity purposes.”

He claims it’s all legal – the subdivision, the building plans and the current state of his property.

Reesberg reacted to his neighbours’ concerns by saying, “They should have shared their concerns with me in a non-confrontational way. They should rather do something about the crime in the street or the rubble lying on the pavement.”
