Have you ever tried to get out of a situation with a lie and were caught red handed? Well if you have, you are not the only one.
Numerous celebrities have been caught lying and some of them in really embarrassing moments.
Here are some of our favourite famous lies gone wrong.
1. Somizi Mhlongo: Somizi Mhlongo or SomGaga as he would like to call himself, was caught in a lie – live on camera. He appeared on the DSTV show Top Shayela and spoke about his glamorous lifestyle. Mhlongo raved about his shoe collection, his dancing career and his sunglasses, claiming that he had “bought 13 pairs of shades from local boutique Sunglass Hut”.
But City Press revealed in an article that Mhlongo never made a purchase of “R50 000” from the boutique. Instead, he had “walked out of the store and shot the scene [for the show] and returned the sunglasses immediately”.
2. Jacob Zuma: President Jacob Zuma is embroiled in what seems to be a web of lies regarding the hundreds of millions of rand used for the construction of his private residence, Nkandla. In November 2012, Zuma denied accusations from the opposition in Parliament that he had misled Parliament about his role in the upgrade.In an attempt to distance himself from the saga, he said: “I was approached to allow security upgrades or enhancements to be made to my Nkandla residence, which was already in existence.” After a report by public prosecutor Thuli Madonsela, Jacob Zuma was left with his tail between the legs. He has since defended himself and we are yet to see where this will end.
3. Julius Malema: Julius Malema was caught lying to the tax man. Although South African public workers have been labelled as “slacking”, South African Revenue Services (SARS) proved to be highly effective. According to SARS, Julius Malema lied to the public saying SARS is being used in “political fights”. This was all subsequent to Malema not paying his taxes for a number of years.
