Security officers guard broken vehicle

GREENSIDE – “As South Africans, we are quick to criticise and not quick to praise,” said Greenside residents Leigh-Anne Hinton and Dale Verster.

The two wrote to Rosebank Killarney Gazette after two suspects broke into the vehicle of their tenants’ girlfriend which was parked overnight on Chirnside Road, Greenside.

“At 2:10am two people tried to break into her car and in fact managed to open and gain access to the vehicle. At that time, Emmerentia Greenside CAP (EGCAP) were patrolling and saw the suspicious situation. Unfortunately the would-be thieves managed to flee the scene in a get-away vehicle,” they said.

CAP security spokesperson Gila Klatzkin said, “As with all incidents, our control room contacted SAPS to inform them of the incident. They responded to the scene and were able to trace the owner of the vehicle, who was then contacted.”

Although Hinton and Verster were not clients of the security company, the officers sat with the vehicle until 4:35am to ensure the would-be thieves did not return. “A true example of community and service providers working together for the greater good,” they said.

Klatzkin said they were proud of their officers, ”The safety of all residents in EGCAP is of our utmost concern, no matter if the victim is a client of CAP or not. We are an initiative for the entire community,” she said.

Hinton and Verster thanked, “Brian Muavha and his colleague for watching our suburb so professionally.”
