Production studio strengthens crime prevention in Linden

LINDEN – Red Pepper Studios has joined forces with Linden Neighbourhood Watch, Linden Police and ADT armed response to fight motor theft in the suburb.

Following escalated incidences of motor theft and theft out of cars in Linden, Red Pepper Studios has decided to tighten the security outside its premises.

The production company met with representatives of the Linden Neighbourhood Watch and ADT Armed Response on 23 April, in an effort to curb motor theft, particularly at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 7th Street. The company’s facilities manager Marius Maritz said they took the first step and hired six patrollers to secure the area.

“We were also looking at getting some cameras in this intersection in conjunction with the ADT system that is monitored at their headquarters and which we want to monitor as well,” Maritz added.

Red Pepper Studios and Linden Neighbourhood Watch further sponsored a trained security patrol officer, who is visibly marked and connected to the neighbourhood watch, ADT and Linden police sector commander via a two-way radio.

According to Fareed Hoosen of the Neighbourhood Watch, the presence of patrol officers at the intersection has already been fruitful.

“Some suspicious looking men jumped back into their cars when they spotted one of the patrolmen,” Hoosen revealed.

Maritz said the proactive crime prevention initiative was also one of the ways used by Red Pepper to give back to the Linden community.

Red Pepper’s new business development manager Richard van Wyk, explained that the company has invested in Linden and it is imperative for it, to maintain good relations with the community and local businesses.

“We want to thank the Red Pepper team for taking the step forward and investing in the safety of [Linden’s] CBD area and our community. The initiative is in its first stages and further safety initiatives will be implemented in that part of the CBD jointly by Red Pepper, Linden Neighbourhood Watch, ADT and Linden police,” Hoosen explained.

He expressed that he wishes that more businesses could come on board and said local establishments situated in the area, would benefit from this initiative.
