Legal action against Rea Vaya drivers

JOBURG - Rea Vaya bus operator Piotrans regards the strike illegal and it has sought court interdict.

Rea Vaya bus operator Piotrans has sought legal action against the drivers who went on strike on 31 March.

Rea Vaya’s director of Marketing and communication Benny Makgoga said Piotrans regard the strike illegal due to the nature of the demands.

“They have thus approached the Labour Court for an urgent interdict declaring the strike illegal. The Labour Court will sit on Thursday 3 April at 10am,” Makgoga explained.

Rea Vaya services have been suspended due to the strike by drivers employed by the Phase 1A and Phase 1B which are operated by Piotrans and Litsamaiso respectively.

SAMWU declared a primary strike in respect of Piotrans and a secondary strike in respect of Litsamaiso on 31 March.

Makgoga assured Rea Vaya commuters that any funds loaded on smart cards will remain valid until the services resume.

“The City apologies to passengers for the inconvenience caused,” Makgoga concluded.
