Cops impressed with major drugs bust

SOPHIATOWN - A man was arrested by Sophiatown police after drugs and ammunition were found in his house.

A man was arrested after police found drugs and ammunition in his house.

According to the Soweto Tactical Response Team’s Constable Mothusi Mohlari, on 5 March they received a tip-off that there was suspicious activity going on at a Westbury house.

“We proceeded to the suspect’s house and asked him if we could search his house, when we did we found 501 pills with a C symbol on them, 27 rounds of live ammunition, and a black 38 special firearm as well as an empty magazine,” Mohlari confirmed.

The pills are suspected to be ecstasy and are allegedly sold for R100, with half a pill going for R50.

The station’s Warrant Office Jarbis de Bruyn said this was not an ordinary case for them.

“We usually confiscate 10, maybe 20 pills – there has never been a case with as large a number as this,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and a case was opened at Sophiatown Police Station.
