Keep safety in mind while you train

JOBURG - How have you ensured your personal safety when out for a jog or cycling?

March and April are big event months for cyclists and runners with the Cape Argus Cycle Tour and the Two Oceans Marathon on the calendar.

As race days draw closer, avid athletes will no doubt be going the extra-mile to ensure that they are fit and ready.

This may mean squeezing in additional training, possibly in the early morning or in the evening.

Managing director of ADT Security Central Region Clive Humphrey said personal safety was equally as important as training.

“It is very important to let someone know that you are heading out and when you expect you will return,” he said. “This means that if you are not home as scheduled, the alarm can be raised immediately and no time will be wasted in the event of an emergency.”

Humphrey offers tips for anyone who will be taking part in any kind of athletic training in the coming weeks:

Humphrey added that it was also important to make sure your family and home were safe while you were out, even if it was just for an hour or two.

“Activate the alarm system and always ensure that you have locked the front door and gates properly behind you.”
