This would not be possible if it were not for the international humanitarian group, Joint Aid Management and its Red Bowl campaign.

Based in Nooitgedacht, this non-profit organisation not only runs its feeding campaign, but it is also provides communities with tools to self-sustain themselves.

The organisation aims to transform African communities by developing viable social enterprise, thereby empowering Africans to create better lives for themselves.

Peter Pretorius founded the South African-based organisation in 1984 after a trip to Mozambique left him distraught. During this trip, he witnessed how hunger had decimated an entire village on the coast of Inhambane. He returned inspired, believing it was his God-given duty to take action.

The organisation has since grown from strength to strength, establishing other bases in Canada, Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the USA. Volunteers from these countries come to Africa to help develop communities in South Sudan, Rwanda, Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. Millions of lives have been saved through provisions like nutritional food, water and sanitation.

The organisation has a collaborative approach to early childhood development, beginning with sufficient nutrition. It produces its own fortified food blend, rich in micronutrients. One bowl of this nutritional porridge provides children with up to 75 percent of their daily protein requirements.
