On 30 October Goliath & Goliath comedy troupe celebrated their second birthday at Tanz Café Live at the Heathway Square shopping centre in Blackheath, with an exciting comedy competition.

Goliath & Goliath, in association with electronics company Philips, held the competition with the aim of finding the ultimate South African comedian.

Johannesburg contestant Amandio Da Silva from Benoni, and Capetonian Devin Gray were the two finalists who performed at the birthday bash selected out of the many hopefuls who entered the competition, which began on 13 October.

Da Silva said he was told about the competition by a friend, and because he had built a reputation for being humorous he decided to enter. Gray thought it would be a great experience and a great platform to expand as a comedian.

Kate Goliath, who describes herself as the boss of her three brothers Jason, David, and Nicholas, said that coming together with Philips was not only great for them to expand as a comedy-related business, but also a constructive way to identify new talent in the comedy industry.

“My team and I do a lot of shows together and are proud to be celebrating our second year. We chose to have the event here because most of our audience is from around the area,” explained Goliath.

Comedian Mpho “Popps” Modikoane hosted the event, and Devin Gray took away the title of ultimate South African comedian.
