Residents can’t seem to catch a break with their pavements.
NMT recently reported on a pavement scammer swindling thousands of rand from unsuspecting tenants in Melville, Auckland Park and Emmarentia (week ending 13 September). Now, another type of pavement upsetter is on the loose, this time in Westdene.
The home owner was away for three weeks and noticed that R3 500 worth of plants was missing from her Maldon Street pavement garden on when she returned. Missing is a large, variegated yellow shrub that was dug out leaving a big scar in the space where it used to be, two rare aloes and rows of small succulents.
“I am very generous,” said the resident, “when people ask me for plants I always give them. I think we are at a really good place and we can make something of our community but we can’t leave it to the police, we all have to look out for each other. I just want other residents need to be aware, especially with all the newly planted gardens in Melville.”
