Marks Park hosts cancer walk

EMMARENTIA - Walkers are invited to take part in the iThemba walkathon, which will take place at Marks Park 27 October.

Walkers are invited to take part in the iThemba walkathon, which will take place at Marks Park 27 October.

“The walk, which is formally known as the iThemba Crusade of Hope, raises funds to promote awareness of breast cancer, and is the annual fund raiser for three beneficiaries, namely Breast Health Foundation, Bosom Buddies and Look Good…Feel Better, Ian Ward of Brand AXN explained.

Entrants can choose to take on either the 5km or the 8km walk, which will both begin at 9am.

Once walkers reach the finish line, they can look forward to entertainment by Idols stars Monde and Melissa, as well as Johannesburg’s sensational cover band, Tokyo Groove. Jumping castles, face painting and sand art will be available for children to indulge in.

Residents and walkers should be aware that certain roads will be closed on the day of the walk.

“Judith Road will see a full closure between Beyers Naudé and William Nicol from 6am until 3pm,” Ward said.

“The walk will go down Hill Road, turn into Muirfield and come back up Komati, so all the roads connecting to those roads will have soft closures with marshals to manage the traffic.”

JMPD will also be on site to oversee the flow of traffic.

Ward advises that there might be a slight increase of traffic around Marks Park between 23 and 26 October as entrants will be collecting walker numbers and goodie bags.

Provision will be made for late entries at Marks Park on the following dates and times:

– Wednesday, 23 October: 12pm to 6pm

– Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25 October: 10am to 6pm

– Saturday, 26 October: 9am to 4pm
