Free playwright workshop at UJ

AUCKLAND PARK - Tom Coash hosts a free two-day playwright workshop at the University of Johannesburg, which starts tomorrow.

American playwright and director Tom Coash will facilitate a free and exclusive UJ Arts and Culture Playwriting Workshop on 17 and 18 October.

Coash’s workshop will help alleviate the burden of the first stages of writing for aspiring and established playwrights.

“Everybody has a story they want to tell but, when confronted with the blank page, have no idea where to start,” Coash said.

“This workshop will incorporate writing exercises and a discussion of various strategies with the aim of making those first few lines easier to write. Regardless of whether you've yet to write your first play or have several under your belt, the workshop is aimed at anybody who's ever stared at the blank page and wanted to fill it.”

Coash’s plays have been produced around the world and have won numerous playwriting awards. His play CRY HAVOC was recently produced at the 2013 South African National Arts Festival.

Interested candidates are advised to contact Motlatji Ditodi to register as soon as possible, as the spaces that remain will be allocated on first-come-first-served basis.

The workshop runs from 2pm to 6pm on both days at the UJ Arts Centre, Kingsway Campus.

Candidates should provide their own transport and food.
