New gear for soccer teams

The Sophiatown KFC visited Westbury Primary School bearing bags full of soccer equipment on 15 August.

The school’s boys and girls soccer teams received soccer kits and gaming equipment for players and coaches. Among these gifts was match gear, training cones, water bottles, game plan boards and six soccer balls for each team, with three designated for matches.

KFC’s store manager Lee Sithole said they identify schools in need and provide them with equipment for the dominant sport identified by the school. “We look at the schools that have a need. You can see from the outside that maybe they need a little help,” she said.

The girls’ soccer coach, Deloros Pailman said her team has been winning games and all they needed was the right soccer kit. “We won about ten of the matches we have played. The girls played with the athletics gear but it just didn’t compare to the other teams,” she said.

Coach Oliver Roskin is looking forward to winning matches with the boys team in their new gear. “I’m excited. We need to play some games now, we need to win,” said Roskin.

Earlier this year, KFC donated cricket scoreboards to the school and will be donating full cricket kits towards the end of the year.

KFC has embarked on a similar course for seven other schools around Gauteng in 2013.
