A Women’s Day race

The Johannesburg Totalsports Ladies Race took place on 9 August ending at Roosevelt High School in Emmarentia.

Walkers, runners and moms with strollers were invited to celebrate National Women’s Day in a 5km or 10km race. A total of 4 000 entrants from age nine upwards completed the course in a sea of pink T-shirts in support of breast cancer.

Bonolo Lesele who completed the 10km race was happy to participate, “It was great, we had lots of fun. It was good to enjoy Women’s Day with other woman, plus have men encouraging us along the way.”

All finishers received medals and to honour Women’s Day only female participants were eligible for cash awards.

“It’s definitely something I will do again. I’m always in the office working and I don’t make time to exercise much. This walk has really motivated me to get out because I feel so good and energised,” said participant Chola Ndyamba,

For every entry received, Totalsports promised to donate R2 to the PinkDrive Public Benefit Organisation, South Africa’s first mobile mammography and breast health service.
