Public toilets saga

There has been a further delay in the construction of the Emmarentia Dam public toilets.

According to the Ward 88 councillor Pat Richards, the non-functioning toilets on Louw Geldenhuys Road which have been there for more than 20 years are being neglected. City Parks intervened and decided to erect new toilets three years ago.

Richards said after the contractors appointed by City Parks had laid the foundation for the new toilets next to the old ones, one of the residents objected because the building was going to obstruct his view.

“About 18 months ago City Parks made a decision to demolish the old toilets and build new ones in the same position. On 3 August, I received a message from the Emmarentia Residents Association informing me about the new foundation which had been demolished and bulldozed into the Emmarentia dam.”

Richards informed City Parks about the situation and she was told that park rangers will be sent to stop the bulldozing process.

City Parks has been contacted for comment and will respond soonest.
