Street dog rescued

Trotting on the wooden floor across the room, Hobie once a stray dog now lives very comfortably in her new home.

After being stranded on a patch of land huddled under a tree for almost a year it was Claire Prahm who came to her rescue.

“I first came across her in Colorado drive in Northcliff on Sunday 20 January 2013 while walking my three dogs. It had been raining and she was huddled under a tree. I then went back there after taking my dogs’ home to see if I could find out if she didn’t belong to the people living in the houses nearby, but I was told that she had been living on the pavement for a year. One resident even told me he thought she had been hit by a car one night, but had done nothing about it.”

With a wound to her side and damaged teeth, Hobie is lucky to be alive and tells a story of a true survivor. She has natural survival instincts from living on the streets amongst a rockery and some trees where she hid and battled for her life. “It is so important that the owners of their dogs put collars around their necks with a clear tag indicating the identity and contact number of the owner. If possible dog owners should always try to insert a chip beneath their dog’s skin at their local vet just to be safe in locating their dog at all times, even if the collar gets lost .

It was clearly a courting process as Prahm had to win over Hobie’s trust as she was highly frightened by people and took a good few weeks to come in even close range of Prahm. Above that of a dog lover, Prahm kindly took her food and water every day and after much perseverance and an invention of a savvy little game with salmon treats creating a trail, Hobie soon lead straight into the hope of her new life. Today Hobie resembles a new dog with new eyes, a new hope and is inseparable from her new owner.
