Canoeists take on wild rapids

Local canoeists finish well in the Klip River 30km race.

On 7 July more than 100 Gauteng paddlers tackled the rapids of the Klip River for 30 kilometres with almost 20 obstacles, broken bridges and rocky sections.

Belloord, a West Rand-based labour consultancy sponsors the series of races with giveaways to all entries and lucky draw prizes to all finishers.

Jason Brown, a member of the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club at Emmarentia Dam enjoyed partnering with young 16-year-old Daniela Afonso from Parktown Girls High School.

Afonso is relatively new to river canoe racing but has already achieved four river race points. The pair finished the race as the 18th double and the fourth mixed double in 2 hours 38 minutes.
