VOX POP: Are you watching the Fifa World Cup, and if so which team are you supporting?

RANDBURG – The biggest sports tournament in the world has kicked off.

The 2018 Fifa World Cup has kicked off and there will be 64 matches that will be played in 12 venues across 11 cities in Russia. The final will take place on 15 July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Pre-tournament favourites to win the World Cup are Brazil, France, Germany and Spain. The Randburg Sun team was out in the community and asked if they will be watching, who they were supporting and which match in the group stages was the one to watch?

NTOMBIKAYISE SIDABUKO: I like soccer but I am not crazy about it. So I might watch a few matches and lend my support to the host nation Russia.

WAYNE ABRAHAM: Yes I will be watching and will be supporting the Netherlands. That is because my mother is from there and has always supported the team. Unfortunately, I can’t support Lebanon.

KERRY PANAGIDIS: Yes I will be watching the Fifa World Cup. I will be supporting Russia because they have a fantastic team and they play well.
THABO LEPHEANA: I am supporting Egypt because of the sensational Mo Salah. He will surprise a lot of teams and lead Egypt into the finals of the World Cup. Anything is possible.

JANET SEEMELA: The only team I ever support is Kaizer Chiefs but I will try and watch a few World Cup matches. Maybe if the Spanish team is playing I will tune in and watch.

ROSE JOSEPH: I love Real Madrid so it is obvious that I will be supporting Spain. Their matches are always enjoyable.

DARREN WITTER: I will be supporting Belgium and expect them to win. I understand that it’s a long shot but they have talented players. They may surprise a lot of people.

NEIL BUCKLEY: Yes I will watch a few matches if my children allow me to. The team I will be supporting will be Germany because we did an office draw and I drew Germany so I have to back them to win.
