AUCKLAND PARK – Hawks, Eagles and Falcons fought over the skies and field at Vorentoe High School, as youngsters raced to new heights.

Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) held its seventh annual inter-house athletics meeting at the school on 18 February. The Hawks house (green) beat the Eagles (blue) and the Falcons (yellow), with 360 points against their opponents’ 298 and 287 respectively.

This after a day of fierce competition, which featured some of the standard athletics events – and also the fun ones such as sack races and obstacle courses.

War cries resonated from the houses, while hundreds of parents also turned up the volume with their cheering from the stands. Smiles abounded and everyone was a winner on a fun day out.

“It was such a successful day. It was all about giving the children an experience and an opportunity to create memories,” said principal, Gora Ebrahim.

“The friendship, sportsmanship and camaraderie on the field were great to see and for some of them to win, was just a bonus for the day.”
