Chassé all the way to Korea

NORTHCLIFF – Jozi Dance Company will head to South Korea to participate in dance competitions and classes.

Chiara Lloyd will come back after her trip from South Korea with more to give to her dance company.

Jozi Youth Dance Company have set their sites on South Korea.

Five of the company’s dancers along with their dance instructor and founder of the company, Jayd Swart will leave for Korea on 21 July. This opportunity is one the dancers are exceedingly excited to experience.

Swart explained that they were approached by the South Korean Ballet to attend workshops and compete in a dance competition. “The Koreans are exceptionally good at their craft,” said Swart. “They invited us to come through to their dance company to do some classes with them.” She added that it is not every day that such opportunities are granted, so they could not pass up the chance.

Shaylin Borejszo, Chiara Lloyd, Hannah Dludla, Naveen Jacobs, and Miguel Franco Green are the amazing dancers who will grace the Korean stage and showcase the best SA has to offer. With each of them bursting with eagerness to elevé their way to impending success. “Korean dancers are by far the best dancers we have seen,” said Borejszo.

These five dancers are not the only ones who will flaunt their best moves abroad, Somer February, a fellow dancer will head to Bulgaria to represent her dance company and her country. There she will be part of a Russian workshop where she will attend summer school. “She will showcase some of what she has learned in her ballet repertoire,” said Swart.

Preparing for the competitions and showcases of this level takes a lot of dedication. “The dancers spend hours daily, perfecting their moves, they have to follow a strict eating plan that promotes the proper physique and also helps strengthen their bodies,” explained Swart.

Lloyd explained that she looks forward to learning new techniques, and working alongside talented dancers outside of her studio. “It’s a great honour to get picked to go and represent,” she said. Dludla is in high anticipation of experiencing her first trip abroad. She anticipates that she will grow as a dancer through her experience in Korea.

Swart concluded that she would love for her dancers to come back with gold medals, but the experience alone will be great for her dancers. “I also have two young male dancers who are amazing in their respective ages, which will be a great overall experience for them.”
