JOBURG – A round-up of some of the hottest events in 2015.

2015 has been an exciting year filled with various entertaining events that took place in and around the Northcliff Melville Times areas. Here is a recap of the year’s memorable events.

  • Breakout Management’s melodic Loved Up Valentines Day

Loved Up was a Valentine’s party and picnic at Marks Park and it featured international and South African musical talent on 16 February.

The line-up included DJ Claas Brieler, Clara Hill, Lisa Kekaula (vocalist for Basement Jaxx, The Bloody Beetroots and The BellRays), incredible local talent GoodLuck, Matthew Gold (who featured on stage with GoodLuck) and Michael Lowman. GoodLuck also performed a special collaboration with Lisa Kekaula, and Shaun Jacobs.

  • Irish Club in Linden celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day that originally celebrated the arrival of Christianity in Ireland now also serves to celebrate Irish culture and tradition around the world. The alcohol and food festivities was lifted during the Lent season of the Christian church. The day was celebrated on 14 March at the Irish Club in Linden as 17 March fell on a weekday.

This Mother’s Day celebration was made a day to remember with 702 Mother’s Day Concert at Joburg Zoo, in collaboration with Spar. Picnic treats were enjoyed while the gentle voice of Elvis Blue, the soulful music of Jamali and the majestic sounds of the Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg, conducted by Kutlwano Masote played in the background.

  • Pinkie Fest

Marks Park Sports Club played host to the 2015 instalment of the annual music festival, Pinkie Fest on 29 August. Partygoers descended on the venue dressed in all kinds of fantastic and flamboyant outfits. Pink was the colour of the day and the effect was a bouncing mass of pink bodies gathering around two stages.

  • Joburg lives loud

The Joburg Live Loud Concert was hosted by 5FM at Marks Park on 12 September. Thousands of concertgoers flooded to see the local lineup at one of the largest events to take place at the Emmarentia venue.

  • Color Run

Colour Runners country-wide were eagerly waiting for “The Happiest 5km on the Planet” in their hometowns. The Color Run was a 5km race in which thousands of participants, or “colour runners”, were doused from head to toe in different colours at each kilometre. The run was held at Roosevelt High School on 20 September.

  • Suzelle DIY launches new book in Melville

Well-known Youtube star Suzelle launched her first Do It Yourself (DIY) book on 15 October at the Bamboo Lifestyle Centre in Melville. Suzelle, said her love for DIY comes from her curiosity on how to do things without having to buy it.

  • Zombie Walk from Westpark cemetery

Residents of Melville and Fairland embarked on an exciting 2km Zombie Walk at the West Park Cemetery to celebrate Halloween while simultaneously raising funds for Marang House on 31 October. More than 50 undead participants dressed in their freaky attires, walked around the cemetery, resembling ghosts and zombies.
