GALLERY: Audience is left feeling inspired by fashion and art

NORTHCLIFF – Up-and-coming designers as well as models showcased their talents at a fashion and talent show hosted by Faces for Africa model and production agency.

It was a day of fashion, talent and upcoming stars on 5 December at the Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre. A fashion and talent show was hosted by Faces for Africa, a model and production agency.

Julia Mathole-Langhinnerich, the agency’s director, said that judges would choose the best model out of all the age categories. “As people we do not have a lot of confidence. We groom these children to have more confidence, because confidence opens doors,” said Mathole-Langhinnerich.

According to Julia’s husband Walter, they opened the agency in 2007 in their garage. The fashion show featured a number of unknown designers showcasing a variety of men’s and women’s fashion. “We empower the model to feel as if they are somebody,” said Walter. The host, Zandile Motho, used to be a model at Faces for Africa and recently became a model in Italy.

Teenagers and young adults highlighted the variety of designers present at the event. Tshepy Mogotsi, designer of Blanq Canvas explained his line, “It is about innovation, refabricating and finding your own style through a blank canvas.” Andrew Brock from Ties n Tees, designs mostly men’s wear. “After inheriting a sewing machine from my grandmother, I started to play around on the machine and put things together,” said Brock. Fashion is what designer, Braveboy Zondo has been doing for five years. Felicity Mndawe, a first-year design student from Pretoria, also featured. It was not only the fashion show that entertained the audience, but a short talent show from the models as well. For an extra treat a dance group, The Trinity Boys, danced a Pantsula dance. This dance had people clapping and dancing along.

After showcasing their modeling skills as well as other talents like acting, dancing and singing prizes were awarded to the top three models in each age category for the best model of the year. According to Julia, the models who win can show their parents how far they have come.
