EMMARENTIA – Make Jozi greener with indigenous plants.

Plant and music lovers descended upon Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia on 14 November for the Grow Jozi Garden Lifestyle Show.

All things green made an appearance at the event.

They had artisan food stalls and exciting Christmas stalls selling beautiful crafts.

The day also saw awesome local bands entertain the audience with cool and mellow tunes from Adventure Man, Sutherland, Ruby Gill and Julian Redpath.

Unusual plants such as the carnivorous Venus fly traps and other insect-eating garden life were on display for plant enthusiasts.

The cabbage race was a lot of fun.

Visitors bought cabbages which had their names engraved on them.

Organisers then found a steep hill and rolled the sponsored cabbages down to the finish line.

The furthest travelling cabbage won the race.

As a result, all the proceeds from the race were donated to the winning cabbage sponsor’s charity of choice.

Charlotte Kanter co-organiser of Grow Jozi said, “This was the first year we did the cabbage race. Next year we will have visitors dress up their cabbages and have obstacles for them to travel through.”
