GALLERY: Emmarentia Dam hosts Dabs Classic Four Hour Enduro

EMMARENTIA – Dabulamanzi Canoe Club hosts 29th annual four-hour canoe race.

The annual Dabs Classic Four Hour Enduro took place at the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, Emmarentia Dam, on 25 October.

Teams competed from all over Johannesburg as a warm-up to the Vaal Canoe Marathon on 7 – 8 November.

To compete in the Dabs Classic Four Hour Enduro, teams had to have four paddlers that alternated paddling during the four hours. The team that travelled the furthest distance won. Both men and women competed – they also had a Dabs Junior Two-Hour Enduro for 14-year-olds and younger.

At the end of the four-hour race, the victorious team was the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, who travelled 52 laps, which is 52km. The team members were David Hamilton-Brown who has been paddling for 27 years; Marco Magni who has also been paddling for 27 years; Piers Cruickshanks who has been paddling for 20 years and Wayne Jacobs who has also been doing it for 20 years.

The race has been going on for 29 years and the general manager of the club Jason Brown said, “This year’s race was yet another success and I’m very happy Dabulamanzi walked away with the bragging rights this year.”

The Dabulamanzi Canoe Club consists of over 1 000 members making it the biggest community paddling club in South Africa.
