CRESTA – Benoni Bunny Park Animals "911" Group hosted a donation campaign for the animals in partnership with Hyundai Cresta.

Benoni Bunny Park Animals “911” Group hosted a Harley Davidson drive at Hyundai Cresta  on 24 October to help the sickly animals in the park.

A large container was filled with animal food and driven to the park.

“Today was all about giving back, to help the voiceless,” said Hyundai Cresta Dealer Principal Saul van Greunen.

Benoni Bunny Park is home to about 2 000 bunnies, and some sheep, cows, goats, pigs and two donkeys.

The rescue group’s aim is to better the lives of these animals and raise awareness of the ill treatment of them while saving this animal park through donations from the community.

“This is all about the animals, their welfare, and their wellbeing,” said Tania Farrest-Smith one of the group’s member.

The group was established after a community of animal advocates learned that the animals were only fed three days of the week, and started to notice the animals’ health along with their living conditions deteriorating.

With the much needed help of those willing to lend a helping hand, Re/Max Randgro recently broke the world record for the most animal food collected – 15 469.49kg of food, and gave the food to the group.

“The animals are desperate for food,” said Farrest-Smith.

Ever since the donations started pouring in, the health of the animals increased dramatically, though they might not be out of the woods just yet, they are well on their way to becoming healthy once again.

The 911 group is not only about the sustainability of the animals but of the community too.

The group recently started a vegetable garden, to help sustain the animals in the park.
