Another week has flown by and the weekend is on our doorstep once again. However you like spending your time off, here is the Gig Guide that has something for everybody:

Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis

If classical music moves your soul don’t miss out on the magnificent choral performance of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Be sure to make your way down to the Wits Linder Auditorium at 3pm on 18 October. The Symphony Choir of Johannesburg and Johannesburg Festival Orchestra’s moving sounds, conducted by the classical star Richard Cock, promises to light up the auditorium. Tickets cost R260 and are available at Computicket.

The Springboks play Wales – Absa Boktown at Silverstar Casino

The spirit of the “Bokke” is in all of us and everybody is waiting in suspense to see what the Springboks will do against the Red Dragons on 17 October. Gates open at 3pm and the nail-biting match kicks off at 5pm and can be watched in The Globe. Tickets cost R50 and are available on Computicket or at the Silverstar Box Office

50 Carat Gold CPF Fundraiser

The Honeydew CPF will be hosting a fundraiser at Cresta Barnyard. Gates will open at 6.30pm and the show, 50 Carat Gold, will start at 8pm. Tickets can be bought on the website. The performance includes the 50 greatest songs of the most defining moments in music history for the last 60 years.

Beer Fest

Come and experience Germany in our own country on 16–17 October during the fourth Beer Fest to be held at the Montecasino Outdoor Events Area. At 9am you can start taking part in beer-pong games, listen to a real Oompah band and enjoy the beers brewed by South African Breweries specially for this glorious event. Bavarian cuisine will be also be available and served by Frauleins.Tickets can be bought on the Montecasimo website for R125 to R875.

The Crook’s Eye

If real-life theatre productions is your interest do not let The Crook’s Eye pass you by. From 14–18 October at the Joburg Theatre, the tense drama focusing on crime in South Africa, will keep you on the edge of your seat. Tickets cost R100 and can be bought on the Joburg Theatre website. The production created by Mercury Durban Theatre’s award-winning Mthokozisi Zulu and Thuso Mbedu will open your eyes to crimes such as woman abuse, rape and mugging that often go unreported in South Africa.

España

After 50 years of the flashing colours of Spanish dresses the Embassy of Spain has arranged a special performance to celebrate the International Spanish Dance Society’s anniversary. On 17 October at 3pm and 7.30pm performances will feature one of Spain’s most famous flamenco dancers, Angel Mu Oz, a variety of regional dancers and the classical Spanish dance, Danza Estilizada ,will light up the Joburg Theatre. Tickets can be bought on the Joburg Theatre website for R180.

Movie by Moonlight

It might be far from Valentine’s Day but its never to soon to impress that special somebody in your life. A picnic under the stars to be held at Oakfield Farm on 17 October, might just be the way to do that. The film Edward Scissor Hands will be shown on a big outdoor screen from 6pm. Tickets will cost R50 and can be bought at the venue. Coffee and freshly baked waffles will be available to purchase or you can are bring your own picnic basket filled with goodies you like. Unfortunately, no drinks will be allowed to take into the venue.
