AUCKLAND PARK – Hundrends of pupils and parents recently joined in the Auckland Park Academy of Excellence's annual 5km fun walk.

Streets of Auckland Park came alive on 13 September when hundreds of parents, pupils and community members came out to participate in the Auckland Park Academy of Excellence’s (Apax) annual 5km Fun Walk.

The theme for this year’s walk was The Wackiest Scientist which saw parents and pupils dressed for the occasion.

The fun walk was also used as a fundraiser tool to furnish the new science laboratory.

According to the principal of the school Nadia Motara, the walk was more than a fundraiser.

“It is an opportunity for parents, teachers, friends and the community to come together to build lasting relationships,” Motara said.

The school also invited the Al Khalil Drug Support Group as well as the Auckland Park Resident’s Association to join in the fun.

“Walking through the clean, leafy suburb of Auckland Park has given everyone an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful work done by the local community,” Motara said.

Chairman of the board of managers of the school,Yunus Gangat was impressed with the turnout for the event.

“We have a fantastic parent-teacher association and dedicated teachers who put in a lot of hard work to organise such events,” said Gangat.
