EMMARENTIA – Fitness and health instructor Vanessa Devine offers the community of Emmarentia free fitness training and health advice.

Health and Fitness instructor Vanessa Devine has launched a free exercise camp and wellness centre for the local community at the Protea Park five-a-side Sports Club in Emmarentia.

Devine noticed the grounds were not being utilized enough and thought it would be a great way to give back to my community.

She has been a health and fitness coach for close to a year now, and worked as a trainer at a health and active lifestyle centre in Randburg.

Devine thought it would be a great initiative to give knowledge back to the community about how to lead a healthier active lifestyle.

“I also present a health and fitness feature on radio educating the youth about the importance of health and nutrition,” she said.

“People seem to think the only way they can get fit is by hiring an expensive trainer or spending hours in a gym and sadly this isn’t the case,” Devine added.

She decided to partner up with her colleague Daniel Rimer to launch a community initiative that would benefit and be accessible to everyone in their area.

The pair hosts outdoor classes in a beautiful environment where members of the community can enjoy and have fun while exercising in a relaxed environment.

“We give educational pieces and consultation to educate our community, in a week. We have managed to attract 30 clients and would really love to reach out to more people. I do believe this is something that can grow and unite our community members,” Devine said.

One of the community members Femida Kathalia was very enthusiastic about the new classes.

“The exercises have been very invigorating. Our coach (Devine) is excellent. She is very capable and knows exactly what to do. The fantastic thing about these classes is that they do not take place in confined environments; it is outdoors and close to home,” said Kathalia.

There are classes three times a week. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.35pm and Saturdays at 8.30am.
