Jozi gets colourful

EMMARENTIA - Ready, set... get splashed with colour! Thousands of Joburgers took part in the first Color Run to hit the city on Heritage Day.

The aim wasn’t to win the race – it was to have as much colourful fun as possible.

Joburgers gathered at Roosevelt Park High School in their thousands to run or walk for charity and get a dose of colour in the world’s largest single event – The Color Run.

The aim of this run on 24 September – besides raising money for charity – was to get blasted with an array of colours at different colour- blasting stations.

The area around the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens was literally painted in the colours of the rainbow. This is the first time this event hit the city. The Color Run is lauded as the “happiest 5k run on the planet” and true to its promises, city residents, dressed in tutus and colourful wigs, smiled and laughed as they were anointed with colours.

Joburgers had no compunctions in further covering themselves with colour powder and bouncing to music and entertainment after the 5km run.

“This is the Color Run! Jump Johannesburg!” the event MC ordered, and city denizens complied as colour suffused the air.

“It was an enormous success,” media coordinator Claire Watt said.

“Jozi showed their spirit and its colour.”
