Rob Rodell is a big man with a big voice.

By day, he manages Cresta Shopping Centre's marketing. By night, he takes over the stage and puts on a formidable performance.

His 28 September launch for new album “House Broken” was the first event to make use of the intimate upstairs seating area of Sophiatown Bar and Lounge in Melville.

“House Broken” is Rodell’s foray into house music and, coupled with his classically trained voice, the upbeat tracks took over the entire space when he belted his ‘popera’ into the microphone.

With themes such as “saying goodbye to the people who don’t believe in you” in ‘Free at Last’ and “moving on to a different part of your life” in ‘Fly Away,’ Rodell performed songs that had his guests on their feet.
