Revolutionary technology security in Linden

ADT launched their license plate recognition initiative in Linden on 26 July in an attempt to curb crime in the area.

The security company partnered with GeoVision in installing surveillance cameras that will capture license plates of all cars that drive past the area.

These images will then be sent to the ADT control room, where they will be registered and tested against the database. Once there is a hit, an alarm will go off in the control room notifying Linden police officers, ADT security and the Linden Neighbourhood Watch (LNW) who will act according to standard operation procedures.

Frans Esterhuyse, marketing director of GeoVision described the project as a proactive crime prevention initiative with one of its biggest concerns being stolen vehicles. “We will know when a stolen or suspicious vehicle has entered the area,” said Esterhuyse.

The intimate event, held at the Victory Park BP Service Station in Rustenburg Road, marked the digging of the hole that will house the first of 21 such cameras set to be installed in Linden. Among the supportive attendees were Linden police officers, members of the LNW and Victory Park BP Service Station owner, Dumisani Buku who will be providing the ADT with electricity to keep this particular camera in operation.

Lieutenant Colonel Zaieed Musthan of the Linden Police Station foresees a successful journey for the initiative. “I guarantee you, it’s going to be successful,” he said.Members of the Linden community will be pleased to know that ADT and the Linden police are working together to create a safer suburb.
