Digger demolish Wasps to reach finals

Diggers has sent a resounding message to their opponents in the Castle Lager Senior Grand Challenge, securing a comprehensive victory over the Wasps in the semi-final.

The semi-finals of the prestigious Castle Lager Senior Grand Challenge delivered an electrifying display of rugby prowess as Diggers took on the Wasps, and Union Knights at the Marks Park stadium.

From the very beginning, Diggers showcased their depth and dominance. The U19s secured a convincing win against the Union Knights (42–3). Against the Wasps, the U21s won 22–12, and the second team earned a 19–7 victory, setting the stage for an intense clash between the two clubs’ first teams.

The main event did not disappoint, as the Diggers came out firing on all cylinders. Nicolas Joubert opened the scoring for the home team, dotting down the first try of the match. Diggers continued to pile on the pressure, with Bruce Coetzee and Jason Godwin (fly-half) adding to the tally, taking the score to 15–0.

The away team managed to respond with a try of their own, but Diggers refused to relent. Shae Hiepner (flanker) and Coetzee once again crossed the whitewash, with Godwin’s accurate kicking extending the Diggers’ lead to 36–5.

Joubert completed his brace, and Godwin added another conversion to make it 43–5. The Wasps scored a late consolation try but it was not enough to stop the Diggers from running out convincing 48–12 victors.
