A Golden Oldies Festival comes to Emmarentia
Marks Park Golden Eagles will host Golden Oldies Rugby Festival.
Marks Parks Golden Eagles Rugby Club is readying to host the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival at Marks Park Sports Club come May 4.
The event, which will see 16 clubs participate and will also include matches form two ladies teams. A golden oldie and manager at the sports club, Vossie Le Roux, said within the sport, once you hit 35 years old, you are then seen as an ‘oldie’, “Lots of guys still have the passion and talent to go on and play the game,” she said. This all day event will also feature rugby players in their 70s playing the game.

This will be the third year the sports club will host the festival which Le Roux has participated in whether she was playing alongside the men in their team or in the women’s team of Marks Parks Eagles. Outside of this festival participants of it also take part in national competitions too.

The festival’s aim, according to Le Roux is for fun, friendship, fraternity and family, “We do not play to win but to be together. No winners. No losers. Rugby is the winner.” She also hopes it that such events go towards bringing families together while enabling all fraternities the chance at not only friendship but at being a rugby family, standing together through it all.
All are welcome at the event which starts at 09:00 and will end at 18:00 at Marks Park Sports Club.
