Mental health awareness

Our mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and societal well-being and affects our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

Every stage of life, from childhood through adulthood, is essential for mental wellness and impacts our stress response, social interactions, and health decisions.

My name is Lebogang Mokoena, I am a 19-year-old student at Wits and I am studying for a Bachelor of Education.

I am passionate about mental health and awareness, especially as a student. We, students, battle a lot, we fight a lot. And it’s hard for one to manoeuvre all the information that we get from university at once and also live our normal lives.

Most of the time students get depressed and they turn to alcohol and drug abuse as coping mechanisms.

Most of the time I encourage people, especially students, to take care of their mental health as it will help them to focus on their studies.

One thing that I do when I feel pressured by everything that varsity has to offer, I talk to my mom about the support structure.
