Young leaders compete for the provincial junior commissioner

The provincial junior commissioner who was chosen will compete in the upcoming months at the national junior commissioner competition.   

20 learners from different schools went head-to-head competing in the provincial junior commissioner competition that was held by SAPS on Friday, July 20 at Wits.

Captain Mabuya, the organiser of the competition said the purpose of the competition is to raise and shape the learners to be future leaders of tomorrow.

“It is important to shape these learners while they are still young,” Mabuya pointed out.

During the competition, learners were given a certain time to present their speeches and to also answer questions from the judges. Each of the contestants gave a speech about why they deserved to be selected as the provincial junior commissioner.

Among them, there was the outgoing provincial junior commissioner Sipho Khubeka (17).

” I am really sad that I am leaving because the experience has been good with the SAPS even though it was stressful, but was also fruitful,” he reminisced.

Sipho said that he is extremely happy that a new team is going to take over. “And I wish them all the best,” he commented.

The event was also graced by former UJ student and actor, Thabiso Molokomme who is known as Paxton Kgomo on the SABC 1 drama called Skeem Saam.

Molokomme`s presence at the event added a touch of glamour and excitement, as attendees recognised him for his popular role in the SABC drama. He also encouraged learners to work hard to achieve their goals.

Learners who won are:

  • Mduduzi Mazibuko: provincial junior commissioner 2023
  • Nhlanhla Mokone: deputy provincial commissioner
  • Melusi Simelane: deputy junior commissioner of Detection services
  • Reitumetse Ramohaladi: deputy junior commissioner of corporate support.

“It is really an honour that I won. I really appreciate the fact that I am here, and all the things that I mentioned in my speech I am going to do,” said the newly elected Provincial Junior Commissioner, Mduduzi Mazibuko.

The selected provincial junior commissioner will compete in the Junior National Commissioner competition in the coming months.
