Teens repair street ditch for community in Fairland
Using specialised Gatvol Mix, the Mosaïek Church volunteers made swift work of big job to make the road safe again for motorists.
Mosaïek Church in Fairland was instrumental in getting a ditch along Market Street filled in to ensure the road is safe for vehicles.
Each year they host teenagers at this time, during the school holidays, as part of their Urban Campout programme.
“The teens sleep in the church and spend each day in service in the community. This stretch of road was dangerous with temporary fixes by community members washing away or eroding,” said Elsa de Witt, local missional guide.
They collaborated with non-profit Betereinders through their chairman Schalk van Heerden, who supplied their pothole mix. “Schalk gave us a demonstration on how to use their wonderful donation which we then used to fill the road in with.”
The mixture, called Gatvol Mix, is not the traditional cold asphalt filling but is made with its own unique mixture.
The teens were led by youth pastor Arno Theron and a good time was had by all.
