Deadline for objections to property evaluations extended to May 5

Below we provide a simple guide on how to lodge objections, provided by Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluk

The amount that the city values your property as being worth, should it be sold on the open market, affects your City of Johannesburg municipal bill. This amount influences your rates and taxes billed amount.

Homeowners have been given an extension until May 5, to lodge an objection on the valuation the city has given.

The valuations form part of the General Valuation Roll 2023.

Director of customer communications for the city’s group finance department Kgamanyane Maphologela said, “Some customers have not yet received their Section 49 notices and had requested the city to extend the objection period.”

The Region B Civic Customer Service Centre is located on the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Jan Smuts Avenue in Randburg.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck provides some information on how to object:

1. Go to https://objections.joburg.org.za and create a profile. Write down your password. Stay logged in.

2. Then you need to search for your property. Please read the Section 49 letter – it has some useful info about halfway down on what info is needed to object.

3. Link the property to your profile.

4. When you have linked it, go into ‘Dashboard’ and open the linked property to start the objection.

5. Fill out the form, upload your docs, sign the screen and submit the objection.

6. Have all your photos, valuations, cover letter, and comparative property reports ready in a jpg format. Convert them all into one PDF, or several PDFs and save them somewhere safe on your computer. You can use the following link to convert photos to PDF: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/images-to-pdf

7. You will need your municipal rates account number handy.

8. Write in the height of the boundary fence/walls in cm (eg 2.1m is 210 cm).

9. You will need the square meterage of your main dwelling and outbuildings/garage.

10. Upload your pdf docs. Choose the ones you want in one go; you don’t upload them one at a time.

11. You will have to sign the screen before filing the application – use your finger if you have a touch screen or your mouse if you don’t.

And that is it.
