Chipelesa keeps its all clean in Greymont
Mike Chipelesa loves the work of his hands and which benefits his much-loved community.
Mike Chipelesa has lived in Greymont for seven years and in that time has worked to make sure that it is pristine.
Lead by the community group, Greymont Forum, Chipelesa is tasked with helping to keep the community clean. A task he does with few complaints come rain or sunshine.
What he loves about his community is that people found within it are friendly. He finds the work fulfilling because it is a work that inevitably makes his neighbourhood the sort people want to stay in, “I enjoy doing the maintenance of my community,” he said.
On any given day you will find him repainting street names, removing weeds, and cleaning the park. The importance of keeping his community clean stems from his thought of if you live in a clean environment, then everything around you will be lovely and everyone within it will be happier as well. “If you keep your area dirty it will lose its value and that is why I help in this way.”
His mornings start off with him picking up litter, then grass cutting across the neighbourhood. On this particular day, Chipelesa was found at Greymont Park and there he was clearing the pond of an invasive plant. This is the same park he planted trees in years ago, trees that now stand metres tall. “I love the work of my hands, as well as nature and people.”
To the Greymont community – Chipelesa encourages you to work together, hand in hand. “I myself cannot manage to do this alone and I need your hands as well because if we work together everything will go well.”
Most importantly, he thanked the Greymont Forum, the community, for giving him a job he is very grateful for.
