A crime campaign for Brixton

The station held an awareness campaign that focused on the education of various crimes.

Brixton Saps Social Crime Prevention, Vispol, Administration, and the youth desk had a crime awareness campaign for Valentine’s Day.

The focus was on the crime affecting the station which includes theft of and out of motor vehicles, common robberies, housebreaking, and house robberies it also addressed domestic violence and gender-based violence.

According to the station’s Jeanette Backhoff, since the university started again, a lot of common robberies and house robbery cases have been opened. “Most of the cases are due to negligence, which doors and windows of student accommodation were left open or were students walked openly with valuables in the street,” she explained.

Two officers hold pamphlets they will distribute in the community.

Backhoff said these awareness campaigns are held on a regular basis to ensure the community is informed of what is happening within their neighbourhood and to be aware of what to do and what to be aware of in certain situations.

“Members of the community are requested to be vigilant at all times and to ensure that all valuables are put away safely when walking on the street as criminals are always looking for soft targets, and that is one of the reasons our students fall victim to crime,” she explained.
