Put your old sports equipment to good use

An owner of local sports shop is sending a plea out to the community to donate old sports equipment to those in great need of them.

It’s been a while since you were active in that sport you loved so much.
It has been so long that your equipment is now old and gathering dust.

You don’t know what to do with it but one thing is for sure you have no plans to just throw them away. So, why not donate them?

Cricket coach and Linden resident Ahmed Nawab would appreciate nothing more than you donating your old equipment to him that he can then distribute to youth less privileged than you.

In his years as a cricket coach, he has come across many promising young sportsmen and women, many of whom live in various townships. Nawab said he was recently asked if had any use for old hockey equipment. At first, he did not know what he would do with it until he got the opportunity to impact the youth he works with on the sports field.

“It’s amazing to go into areas and see the amount of passion and love these youth have for sports,” he said. He added this passion needed to be accompanied by better sporting equipment at their disposal.

For Nawab, sports has been a passion of his since he could remember, as he was never without a cricket bat or ball in his hand while growing up. “I don’t know much about soapies and dramas but I do know about sports,” he said. And, as the owner of a recently opened sports shop, one would expect nothing less.

Being part of this community for all these years, he has come to realise that a lot of people in the area are big-hearted. “You can see they want to give back and contribute to the community.”

Nawab also wants to encourage donors of the sports equipment to accompany him when he distributes it so they could witness the joy of the recipients.

You can drop off sports equipment at Sports Shack at 59 4th Avenue, Linden.
