UPDATE: Northcliff Ridge Eco Park closed because of hooligans

Locals are advised to use public parks with respect and must follow the rules and regulations in place.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has included the Northcliff Ridge Eco-Park in random patrols and continues to refer bylaw transgressions to JMPD.

Residents, with the support of the ward councillor and the security company, have opted to lock the facility in the interim due to non-compliant users.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo spokesperson, Jenny Moodley states that, with over 2,173 facilities to oversee, the small contingent of 29 rangers are unable to maintain a permanent presence between 6:00 and 18:00 in the facility.

“The onus is on visitors to comply and to be mindful that anti-social behaviours in public spaces disrespect all users and adjacent homeowners.”

She goes on to say that JCPZ’s Conservation Department is currently looking into ways to assess bylaw violations in the facility.

“The Northcliff Eco Park is a natural area, and visitors are urged to comply with the bylaws and refrain from stepping onto the steep loose rocks or attempting to get too close to the edge. A fall from the ridge has the potential to be fatal or seriously injure a visitor.”

Moodley said that caution signs have been posted at the facility advising visitors to comply with these requests for their own safety; however, visitors continue to disregard these requests, and there have been reports of selfies being taken to capture the steep drop.

Residents are invited to call Bishop Ngobeni to report transgressions on 083 981 0272
