A great sporting year for Skylar

The young athlete shares on his success of 2022 as he looks forward to 2023.

For young gymnast Skylar Joseph, 2022 proved to be a year of big wins.

Skylar’s first love is gymnastics and he was crowned Level 6 Central Gauteng gymnast of the year and received an overall silver medal at the South African Gym Games in October.

The talented gymnast has participated in the sport since he was about six years old, training at Johannesburg Gymnastics Centre. “Gymnastics requires consistency, long hours of training and dedication,” said Skylar. He added it had been a challenging year while trying to find a balance between school, sports and his gymnastics training. “But, by the grace of God, I managed to get through it successfully.”

Among his gymnastics pursuits, he also did very well in school, being the winner of the Northcliff Primary School’s 2022 Dux Scholar award and he received academic colours. A promising athlete, Skylar was also awarded scrolls for cricket as well as hockey and swimming excellence awards.

He now looks forward to the new chapter in his life as he prepares for high school at Parktown Boys’ High School in 2023.
