Rose among the African terrain

Artist Trevor Rose will have his work exhibited at the Robert Badenhorst Gallery throughout most of December.

Trevor Rose will host a solo exhibition at the Robert Badenhorst Gallery.

The artist shares not only his exhibition at the Linden-based gallery but what inspired the works of art he will showcase from December 1 to 20.

Rose explained he divided the exhibition into three categories: Raw Africa, African Lady and Stipes. In the Raw Africa series, he shows all the raw and dry rugged landscape of the continent. With the African Lady series, he shows portraits that depict the headscarf which for him is a sign of dignity. While Stipes features a great many things.

A self-taught artist living in Joburg, Rose studied fashion design and graduated with distinction. Following this, after working for years for manufacturing companies supplying most of the big chain stores in the country, he changed course.

“About 10 years ago, I decided to change my path and do what I always wanted to do, and started painting and drawing.”

His influence comes from both contemporary and classical art as well as conceptual art.

“I prefer to do a variety of different genres of painting and drawing as I believe it keeps me inspired and motivated, rather than stick to one thing.”

He added he never knows exactly what he will be doing from week to week. Rose is a firm believer that there is always something new to learn and do.

“I believe in the unknown and find it exciting.”
