Report crime incidents to the police not just through a Facebook post

This as more and more people are taking to Facebook and WhatsApp to share about their experiences but they are not reporting it to the station.

Linden CPF urges the community to report all incidents to the Linden Police Station.

This comes after officials at the station noticed that there has been an increase in mentions of incidents taking place around the parks in their precinct on WhatsApp and Facebook groups, “However the station is not seeing a corresponding increase on officially reported crimes,” said Annelize Tichauer, Linden CPF chairperson.

Tichauer urges residents to report all incidents to the station, even if they find that the locks on your gate motor were tampered with.

“Facebook and WhatsApp groups are handy to notify your neighbours but ultimately it’s not a formal report,” she said. Adding that the only purpose for reporting a crime or incident should not only be to claim insurance.

According to Tichauer, reported crimes can be investigated and more importantly, trends can be determined and patrols for both the police and security companies can be adjusted to focus on crime hotspots

“Linden CPF would like to thank Linden SAPS sector commanders and security companies for the many weekly special operations targeting hot spots,” says Tichauer.
